Prospective members are not required to read music or try out before joining the choir. What is expected is that you like music, you like to sing, you like to be part of a group, you are committed to attendance, and you like to have fun.
Along with learning the music to selected choral works, we learn about proper breathing and breath control; simple theory such as note values, rhythm, measures, phrases, rests, etc.; how to follow the director; and how to listen to each other.
We perform periodically as a group throughout the church year during Sunday services, at Lent and Advent Wednesday services, during the Christmas Season, and during Holy Week and Easter. We have performed two Christmas choral concerts which were open to the public.
Our Savior is very pleased to have a handbell ensemble. Our group is working hard and is blessed to have terrific bells on which to play. We look forward to sharing our performances with the church, especially as part of the Christmas season.
Bells require commitment but are accessible to anyone wanting to learn. We welcome prospective members of the handbell ensemble to join us in our music-making!
Singing as a congregation
While not everyone participates in chorus or in an ensemble, everyone at Our Savior sings - at least a bit! We joyfully participate in song during worship because it enhances our devotions and it strengthens our sense of community. Whatever your age, voice, or music background, we look forward to having you join us at a service soon!
